Franciszek Siła-Nowicki

(1864–1935) was a poet and a social activist. He was born in Krakow into the family of Maksymilian, an outstanding Polish zoologist and a professor at the Jagiellonian University. Franciszek Nowicki wrote his literary work in his years of study at the Faculty of Philosophy, where, with Ignacy Daszyński, Wilhelm Feldman, and Artur Górski, among others, he created the Academic Reading Room of the Ognisko journal. For this, Nowicki ended up being taken to Austrian court, and was expelled from school. Thereafter, he worked as a teacher in various towns of Galicja. At the end of his life, he returned to Krakow.
