Vis à vis29 Main Square
Vis-à-vis is a place called ‘Zwis’ by the locals. Out of all bars located in Krakow, this one is certainly described most frequently. It is here that Gustaw from Jerzy Pilch's novel Spis cudzołożnic [List of Lovers] satisfied his ‘not very eccentric need of anonymousness’ with a glass of Albanian cognac. The Master from Marcin Świetlicki’s detective stories often sits here, too, appreciating its invariability. Zwis is the starting point of all-night-long escapades in Krakow bars, which are described in Archipelag Rynek by Sławomir Łuczak. The real pride of this establishment are its barmaids: Ms Krysia and Ms Zosia, who appear, among others, in Irek Grin’s detective story Pan Szatan [Mr Satan]. The protagonists of Robert Ostaszewski’s novel Troję pomścimy [We’ll Avenge Troy] enter Vis-à-vis to come across any of the Cellar’s celebrities, i.e. actors from the famous Cellar under the Rams.
